The University of Dick and Balls is committed to making education affordable. Over 85% of our students receive some form of financial aid. Here are the main types of aid available:
Gift aid that does not need to be repaid. Grants are typically need-based and awarded based on your FAFSA results.
Merit-based and need-based awards that recognize academic achievement, talent, and community involvement. No repayment required.
Borrowed funds that must be repaid with interest. Federal loans offer more favorable terms than private loans.
Part-time employment opportunities on campus that allow you to earn money while gaining valuable work experience.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is your first step toward receiving financial aid. Completing the FAFSA is required for federal grants, loans, work-study, and many institutional scholarships.

File your FAFSA at studentaid.gov. You will need your Social Security number, tax information, and UODNB's school code (003482).
UODNB awards merit scholarships to outstanding first-year students based on academic achievement. These scholarships are renewable for up to four years with satisfactory academic progress.
| Scholarship | Award | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Presidential Scholarship | $20,000/year | 3.8+ GPA, 30+ ACT or 1340+ SAT |
| Dean's Scholarship | $15,000/year | 3.5+ GPA, 27+ ACT or 1210+ SAT |
| Trustee Scholarship | $10,000/year | 3.2+ GPA, 24+ ACT or 1160+ SAT |
| Phallus Achievement Award | $5,000/year | 3.0+ GPA |
Scholarship amounts are based on a holistic review of your application. Test scores are optional for 2024–2025; students who do not submit test scores will be considered based on GPA and other application materials.
Demonstrated financial need is determined by your FAFSA results. UODNB offers several need-based grants in addition to federal and state aid:
| Grant | Amount | Eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| Federal Pell Grant | Up to $7,395/year | Based on FAFSA; undergraduate students only |
| Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) | Up to $4,000/year | Exceptional financial need; limited funding |
| Tennessee Student Assistance Award (TSAA) | Up to $4,000/year | Tennessee residents; based on FAFSA |
| UODNB Institutional Grant | Up to $10,000/year | Based on financial need; limited funding |
| UODNB Community Service Grant | Up to $3,000/year | Demonstrated community service involvement and financial need |
Federal student loans offer lower interest rates and more flexible repayment options than private loans. We strongly recommend exhausting federal loan options before considering private loans.

Up to cost of attendance minus other aid
The Federal Work-Study program provides part-time employment opportunities for students with demonstrated financial need. Positions are available across campus, including:
Work-study earnings are paid biweekly and are not applied directly to your tuition bill. To be considered, complete the FAFSA and indicate your interest in work-study.
